I forgot to put my photos on my laptop before leaving for Florida, so I didn't get a chance to post these photos from the day of the CVS Beauty Club Beauty Board luncheon in San Diego. Kimbly was downright harassing me for them ("Where are those photos, b?!"), so I'm sure she will be pleased that I finally got around to it. I have a million or maybe even a billion more photos for Kim, so make sure to check out her blog a little later. She loves company.

Which reminds me, I believe she might be coming to visit in a couple of weeks! And then I will be going to Los Angeles, hopefully in late October, so I'm pretty excited about the next couple of months. I'll also be turning twenty-seven in less than a month and I'm not completely thrilled about that...but let's just gloss over that for now. On the bright side, I made a list of cakes and pies that I want for my birthday. Yes, plural.

Kimberly Cupcake and Baby Keiks!

My outfit details:
lace jacket - Threadsence
goddess dress - c/o Banana Republic
hat - Gap
Seychelles Chant heels - c/o Seychelles
Rebecca Minkoff hobo - c/o Rebecca Minkoff

Kim's outfit details:

My short trip to San Diego was just what I needed. Kim and I have been apart for way too long! Do you know how weird it is to go from living with one another to being on opposite coasts?

p.s. Kimberly Cupcake is what Raul, her roommate, calls her. Baby Keiks has been my nickname since I was a wee one, and Kim still calls me that.

mess in a dress

Outfit Details:
Coach Tyler Moto Jacket - gift from Coach
Jill Stuart Collection dress - Beacon's Closet
belt - thrifted
rings - Beacon's Closet and Accessorize
bangles - Alex and Ani
Gimmik platforms - gift from Blowfish Shoes
Ariana top handle messenger - gift from Melie Bianco
lipstick - Dior Addict in Diorkiss

I don't think I've ever worn a maxi dress before I got this dress, but after wearing it, I went hunting for another. I found this great floral chiffon dress at Beacon's Closet and wore it the next day. Within the first few hours of wearing it for the very first time, I managed to rip a big hole in the dress by rolling over it in my chair. It was on a seam and easily fixed, but I still had to walk around the city with a gaping hole in my dress, all afternoon. This is why I can't have nice things.

There is no color here

Outfit Details:
Celadon Origami Wrap - courtesy of Lilla P
silk tank - thrifted
tiered skirt - Gap Kids (it was $4! I bought the largest size)
Steve Madden Caryssa heels - Nordstrom
clubsmen glasses - courtesy of 80s Purple (2 for $20 on their huge collection of sunglasses!)
Maurissa bag - courtesy of Melie Bianco

Rainbow, I do love you. I know I've neglected you, in favor of blushes, greys and other neutrals. I'm sorry. This outfit is for you.

I used to wear a lot of color, and a few of my readers felt betrayed when I started gearing my outfits toward softer palettes, asking me to wear more color. I don't want anyone to think I was ignoring their pleas, but in the end I wear what I grab from my closet - and lately, it's been filled with muted hues. I go through phases; I like to switch it up now and then. And though I've kept my technicolor garments toward the back of my closet, I felt like digging them out today. It's rainy and grey, and I needed color. But really, it was Audrey who inspired me. We were invited to the Lilla P showroom to pick out a few pieces, in honor of their new store (which is opening next week, in the Meatpacking District), and I went straight for the creams and greys. Then I saw Audrey with an arm full of rainbow and I got envious. It was like seeing a pretty girl with your ex boyfriend, while you're pajama-clad and walking your dog. I felt boring, so I put down a couple of my choices and picked up some brighter ones.

I'm obviously not going to give up my normal attire, but I have to admit that infusing a shot of color (or a LOT of color) into an outfit was an instant pick-me-up. Thanks, Audrey, for inspiring me to do so!

p.s. A couple of readers pointed out that this color (MAC pro longwear lipcreme in Unlimited) is very similar to what I wanted (Crimzone color with more of an opaque, less glossy finish). You're absolutely right. It's a little more pink, but it's pretty close. I'm going to check out some more purple-ish hues today!

Cabin Fever and Devious Kitties

Outfit Details:
vintage beret - from my mom's shop, Hourglass Consignment
lace button up - H&M sale rack
tulle skirt - Target kid's section, Christmas gift from my mom (same one I borrowed from Kim)
tights - Christmas gift from my mom
Seychelles boots - courtesy of ModCloth
distressed leopard print Gwen bag - courtesy of Melie Bianco
black drape cardigan - MNG Mango via JC Penney (from a gift card I won)
vintage cape - gift from my mom; she got it out of a dumpster

I fear I'm suffering from cabin fever at the moment; I have only left my immediate neighborhood twice since I returned from Florida and you're looking at one of them. I have had a lot of sewing to catch up on and with only one properly functioning hand, it takes about three times as long to complete a garment. As a righty, I find it extraordinarily difficult to cut, hand-stitch, pin or even write out mailing labels with my left hand. It's driving me crazy. Fortunately, Bobby has been assisting me whenever possible. Unfortunately, with his schedule and limited to no sewing knowledge, it's practically never possible. How inconsiderate of him to have his own career and no expertise in my own field. How rude.

I was hoping to have a moment away from the frustration yesterday, when I finally had a great excuse to get out of the house for Tory Burch's Pre-Fall presentation. Naturally, things went awry and I ended up staying home. The hot water wasn't and still isn't working (I can't function/look decent without a shower) and my keys were nowhere to be found. A few hours after I had already given up and resorted to watching a couple episodes of Hoarders and subsequently tidying up the apartment, I discovered them beneath my cat Vester. I don't know why I didn't think to look under him in the first place. He is a rather large cat.

Do you think he was trying to hold me hostage? Kitties can be such devious little creatures. I wouldn't put it past him to wreck the hot water heater, either. They do have a history of hating baths.
