Birthday Girl

vintage dress - The Loved One Vintage
heels - c/o B Brian Atwood (now available at Saks)
MAC bag - c/o Rebecca Minkoff (I wore it on my birthday last year, too)
vintage necklace - gift from my mom
glasses - Ray-Ban

All I requested for my birthday was a napoleon pastry cake, and that's exactly what I got! The Funfetti cake goes without saying - I can't have a birthday without one of those. You might remember that I had a chance to sit and chat (well, stand and chat) with Brian Atwood during their preview. Needless to say, I was pretty thrilled to receive a pair of B Brian Atwood shoes from the highly anticipated collection, just in time for fashion week and my birthday. It's no Napoleon cake, but you know, what else is?

And no, I'm not sharing. You can get your own cake!

Okay, you can have a little.

coming through the haze

Outfit Details:
leopard blouse - thrifted
vintage belt, rings and necklace - gifts from my mom
skirt - bought it at Threadsence but they seem to be sold out:(
Jeffrey Campbell peep toe heels - Century 21
glasses - Ray-Ban
Foley + Corinna boxy tote - c/o Foley + Corinna
lipstick - MAC Viva Glam (every penny goes to MAC AIDS Fund)

I've always loved leopard print but I've been wearing (and buying) even more of it, lately. I can just see Kim gagging a little, because she hates leopard print - and all animal prints. She thinks they're tacky. But this is coming from a girl who loves her glitter, rainbows and tiaras all at once and in large quantities, so we'll call it a wash. Tacky one and tacky two; I guess that's why we make such great friends.

Leopard print always reminds me of Peggy Bundy, in the best way. I always loved that lady. I love her even more on Sons of Anarchy. Who knew Peggy Bundy would turn out to be so bad-a**?!

p.s. Whit from Britt+Whit recently wore the same skirt. See how she styled hers here!

I forgot to put my photos on my laptop before leaving for Florida, so I didn't get a chance to post these photos from the day of the CVS Beauty Club Beauty Board luncheon in San Diego. Kimbly was downright harassing me for them ("Where are those photos, b?!"), so I'm sure she will be pleased that I finally got around to it. I have a million or maybe even a billion more photos for Kim, so make sure to check out her blog a little later. She loves company.

Which reminds me, I believe she might be coming to visit in a couple of weeks! And then I will be going to Los Angeles, hopefully in late October, so I'm pretty excited about the next couple of months. I'll also be turning twenty-seven in less than a month and I'm not completely thrilled about that...but let's just gloss over that for now. On the bright side, I made a list of cakes and pies that I want for my birthday. Yes, plural.

Last Light

I'm going to warn you right now, I wore this dress twice in one week and I plan on posting the other one right after this (better pictures, more detail). On this day, I ended up not going anywhere and changed into pajamas halfway through the day. I just got a white background for product shots, and wanted to test it out. It was an obvious fail (and overexposed, but that's not the point), because my apartment has a dismal amount of natural light and even less space for proper lighting. Even my favorite lens (50mm 1.8f) can't handle it very well.

What a bummer.

I plan on getting an SB-600 speedlight, since I don't really have enough room for a lighting setup. One issue is that I don't think I can trigger the flash remotely with my D50 (I *think* that's the case). Does anyone have an experience with the SB-600 that they would like to share?

On a completely unrelated note, how cute is my little pup? Miku likes to be by my side at all times. She even waits outside of the bathroom door for me.

Redolent of Orchids

I had every intention of posting these yesterday, but a handsome little prince named Kitty Boos decided to chew straight through my charger. I do adore my little critters, but sometimes they can be little rascals. Right now they are sleeping like little angels - and thus, we begin the calm before the inevitable storm. I don't know what has gotten into them the past couple of weeks - maybe they're bored. I think they just need their new cat condo to arrive, and soon. They outgrew (and broke) the old one. Meanwhile, Miku is a perfect little princess and they could learn a thing or two from her.

H&M had a whole rack of these dresses on sale ($15), in various colors. They must have had a difficult time selling them, because they were extremely abundant - either that, or they just made way too many. Though a little hesitant in my purchase, wondering if every girl in the world would have this exact dress, I was won over by the pale pink. Plus, I'm a sucker for fringe and loose fitting dresses of versatility. I thought about removing the bottom band and letting the fringe hang loose, but it's bound to get caught on everything, so I'm leaving it be. As for the bag, it couldn't be more ideal. Maybe my dress isn't exactly unique, but the bag certainly is. My mom gives me the most amazing gifts.

vintage bag: a gift from my mom, from her store, Hourglass Consignment
