Treasure Hunter

Outfit Details:
black lace button up - Century 21
Milly dress - Century 21
Rebecca Minkoff Boy Toy Satchel - c/o Rebecca Minkoff
Jeffrey Campbell heels - Century 21

Gee, do you think I took a trip to Century 21? I actually forgot to post these photos before I left for Florida, so they're a little old. I love all of my bargain stores - Century 21, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Loehmanns - and even the sites (Gilt...and coupon sites for extra discounts). People often tell me they never have any luck at stores like this, which doesn't really surprise me. If you're a skimmer and not a hunter, you might overlook the treasures. It's the same way with thrifting. You can't just walk in and glance over the racks. You have to dedicate a set amount of time and go through every piece. In my opinion, it's worth the search. I got these shoes for $15 and the shirt was even less. The dress was over 70% off. I walked out with two bags full of stuff and spent less than I would even if I just bought the shoes full price. Worth it!

p.s. Speaking of good bargains, if you're as big of a fan of Rebecca Minkoff as I am, now is the time to make a purchase! They're having their Endless Summer Sale with major price reductions (up to 50% off) on bags, apparel and shoes. Also follow their twitter for extra discount codes!! They're tweeting discount codes throughout the whole sale.

p.p.s. This is NOT sponsored by Rebecca Minkoff and they did NOT ask me to post about this. I'm just sharing with you because it's a good sale!

coming through the haze

Outfit Details:
leopard blouse - thrifted
vintage belt, rings and necklace - gifts from my mom
skirt - bought it at Threadsence but they seem to be sold out:(
Jeffrey Campbell peep toe heels - Century 21
glasses - Ray-Ban
Foley + Corinna boxy tote - c/o Foley + Corinna
lipstick - MAC Viva Glam (every penny goes to MAC AIDS Fund)

I've always loved leopard print but I've been wearing (and buying) even more of it, lately. I can just see Kim gagging a little, because she hates leopard print - and all animal prints. She thinks they're tacky. But this is coming from a girl who loves her glitter, rainbows and tiaras all at once and in large quantities, so we'll call it a wash. Tacky one and tacky two; I guess that's why we make such great friends.

Leopard print always reminds me of Peggy Bundy, in the best way. I always loved that lady. I love her even more on Sons of Anarchy. Who knew Peggy Bundy would turn out to be so bad-a**?!

p.s. Whit from Britt+Whit recently wore the same skirt. See how she styled hers here!

Me and Tessa Marie

Having Tessa here was a dream. I love all of my sisters, but Tessa is my favorite. She's everyone's favorite. If any of my sisters, mom, or grandma say otherwise, they are fibbing through their teeth. My great grandma, at least, admitted her favoritism: "I love all of you girls. I just love Tessa a little bit more." My grandma replied, "Mother, that's not nice! I love all of you girls equally. But Tessa is very special."

It's not just because she's the baby. She's just one of a kind - so genuine and sweet, and 100% her own person. She does her own thing and never seems to be susceptible to peer pressure. She's wildly intelligent and she has a killer sense of humor, to boot. When she decided to dye her hair blue (just as mine was, in college), her dad's friend said "She's just finding herself." When they called her into the room, Tessa replied, "One minute! I'm busy finding myself!"

In short, I love her. I miss her. I miss all of my sisters. It's a shame we're all so different, only because we choose different areas to reside in, according to our own tastes. It does keep the fighting to a minimum, though. Absence makes the heart grown fonder.

Outfit Details:
Elizabeth and James dress - Gilt (click if you need an invitation)
belt - thrifted
cardigan thingy - beacon's?, slightly altered (I just rolled the sleeves and machine stitched them)

Carpenter bee bag - courtesy of Spotted Moth

Love love,
Keiko Lynn

p.s. While on the brooklyn bridge, I ran into a lovely reader named Leah (not sure if she spells it that way). It was really cool. Funny that I was having my outfit photo taken!
p.p.s. I realize that saying I have a favorite makes me sound like a jerk. Rest assured, I love all of my sisters. We just all dote on the wee one;)

All To All

The other day, a group of us went to lunch at Ippudo, since our friend Lucrecia was paying NYC a short visit. It was a bit of an inadvertent blogger lunch, with Lucrecia from Fashion Is Poison, her beau Jack, Joelle from The Owls Are Not What They Seem, Jason from Citizen Couture and Mimi from Brook&Lyn. It was my first time meeting Jack, Jason and Mimi, but we immediately had a great group dynamic - you wouldn't have known we weren't completely familiar with one another. I guess it helps when you already know each other's blogs:) Joelle was still recovering from food poisoning and I was unaware of this secret vegetarian ramen option (I got the noodle salad), but we still had a great time. Naturally, being so close to Momofuku Milk Bar, we had to make a stop for cookies and soft serve. Magic.

So, you all know that I'm the worst blogger ever and I forget to bring my camera most of the time. This was no different. I wasn't thinking like a blogger - I just wanted to catch up with my friends and meet some new ones. But luckily, we had a very talented street style photographer (Jason) on hand. Hopefully he'll put some photos up soon!

Outfit Details:
dress (modified Clara, I just made one for myself) - Postlapsaria
shoes - Jeffrey Campbell (see more outfits with these shoes here)
Baby Ruche bag in blush - courtesy of Jenny N. Design (see other ways I wore it here)

Makeup notes: MAC Pink Plaid lipstick, MAC blacktrack fluidline on eyes, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Petticoat on cheeks

Outfit note: I have quite a bit of leg before risking anything showing (I have an extremely short torso and long legs/thighs) - but when wearing short skirts and dresses, I wear matching hotpants underneath. That way, I don't have to worry about flashing anyone while walking up the stairs, or when a gust of wind comes by.

Love love,
Keiko Lynn

p.s. "All To All" has nothing to do with this post, but it has been in heavy rotation ever since the newest Broken Social Scene album came out. It's my summer song! You can give it a listen here.

Redolent of Orchids

I had every intention of posting these yesterday, but a handsome little prince named Kitty Boos decided to chew straight through my charger. I do adore my little critters, but sometimes they can be little rascals. Right now they are sleeping like little angels - and thus, we begin the calm before the inevitable storm. I don't know what has gotten into them the past couple of weeks - maybe they're bored. I think they just need their new cat condo to arrive, and soon. They outgrew (and broke) the old one. Meanwhile, Miku is a perfect little princess and they could learn a thing or two from her.

H&M had a whole rack of these dresses on sale ($15), in various colors. They must have had a difficult time selling them, because they were extremely abundant - either that, or they just made way too many. Though a little hesitant in my purchase, wondering if every girl in the world would have this exact dress, I was won over by the pale pink. Plus, I'm a sucker for fringe and loose fitting dresses of versatility. I thought about removing the bottom band and letting the fringe hang loose, but it's bound to get caught on everything, so I'm leaving it be. As for the bag, it couldn't be more ideal. Maybe my dress isn't exactly unique, but the bag certainly is. My mom gives me the most amazing gifts.

Outfit Details:
blazer: H&M
fringe dress: H&M
belt: thrifted
vintage bag: a gift from my mom, from her store, Hourglass Consignment
shoes: Jeffrey Campbell

Makeup notes: julie hewett cheekie cheek and lip shine in Bette on lips, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Refined on cheeks

Love love,
Keiko Lynn

Food, Fun, Friends!

Someone in the universe took pity on me and my ancient phone. Last week(ish), I was invited to a leisurely day of food, drinks, Minx manicures (!!!) and a little bit of tech discussion at Meet at the Apartment, hosted by HTC. Though I admit I was drawn to the event mostly by talk of free Minx manicures (I'm cheap, I know) - it was also pretty exciting to play with their new Droid Incredible. Even more exciting - we got to keep them! It's no match for my free upgrades and hand me down, crappy phones (note my sarcasm), but it's alright;) Unfortunately, I don't have Verizon, I have AT&T. I have a lot of issues with AT&T, but most of my family and friends have it. Does anyone have feedback about Verizon? Specifically, people in NYC?

Aside from being hosted by some really wonderful people, I also ran into a lot of familiar faces. It was reminiscent of a slumber party, complete with cupcakes!

Little Bunny - ModCloth Spring Fever Blogger Challenge Week 2

It's week two of the ModCloth Spring Fever Blogger Challenge! This week, we were asked to style the Na Na Nineties Dress. As soon as it arrived, I knew I wanted to wear it for Easter at my grandma's house, with my new Jenny N. Design baby ruche bag. I missed the initial egg hunt (due to my horse and pony shenanigans), but Tessa joined me for an indulged my inner child and joined me for a second round. We spent the rest of the night dyeing glittery eggs:)

Check out the ModLife blog to see how each of us styled the dress. Please let us know whose style is your favorite by voting for your favorite look!

If you want a girl who's sentimental...

I know I'm a train wreck, and it seems like I'm always apologizing for one reason or another. I'm not even going to try and negate that, because it's the truth. Instead, I want to say how grateful I am to have such supportive readers. You all are wonderful. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I cried my eyes out while reading through the comments and emails from all of you.

It has been a really tough year, but I am okay. I just had an amazing weekend with my dad's side of the family and it really turned things around. Pop-Pop's funeral was so much more than that - it was a celebration of his life and the people he loved, which is the way it should be. Seeing my family was just what I needed. We were only missing a handful of people, which is pretty incredible, since our family is huge. I'll post pictures another day, but if you're friends with me on facebook, you can see them for yourself (I just posted a whole album).

Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate your support, and let you know I'm still breathing. These photos have absolutely nothing to do with this post (although I did wear the same dress to the funeral), but I happened to have them on my camera and was excited to be able to post something a little more on task. They're obviously a little old (I'm still in Florida) but they're new to the blog:)

Dress and blazer: H&M
shoes: Jeffrey Campbell
belt: Beacon's closet

Love love and everlasting gratitude,
Keiko Lynn
