on the terrace

(photos by Kim)
Outfit Details:
Alice Ritter trench - Bird
sheer striped shirt - thrifted

rings - Forever 21 and vintage
Collina Strada bag - c/o Emerging Thoughts
heels - J.Crew

Just hanging out on my beautiful terrace - no big deal.

In my dreams.

Don't worry, I still live in my dinky little apartment in Park Slope, with my seventeen cats and Miku. A girl can dream, can't she?

Cheap Thrills

Outfit Details:
Olive Anorak - c/o Chloe Loves Charlie
skirt (worn as dress) - thrifted
belt - from my mom's shop (Hourglass Consignment)
Ampersand heels - c/o Seychelles
Collina Strada bag - c/o Emerging Thoughts
hat - H&M
vintage glasses - Guvnor's Vintage

I think I wear this skirt more often than most items in my closet, even if I've only worn it a few times on the blog. It might be the best few dollars I've ever spent.

I can't wait to get back down to Florida in the next few weeks. Not only am I looking forward to thrift stores that aren't picked clean (I'm looking at you, New York!) - my little sis is due to have her baby boy! I'm not sure which is more exciting.

Okay, okay...meeting my new nephew Ryder might take the cake.

looks just like the sun

Outfit Details:
silk blouse - DKNY
Adele shorts - Queen's Wardrobe
Boxy leather tote - c/o Foley + Corinna
Seychelles Clue booties - c/o Seychelles
belt - thrifted
bracelets - Forever 21 (bangles) and gift from a shoot (multi-colored)
vintage glasses (prescription) - Guvnor's Vintage
Rainbow Warrior Necklace by Sea of Bees - c/o Emerging Thoughts
lipstick: Bobbi Brown Rose

I meant to post this Thursday, and then again yesterday. The problem was that our internet was out, because a provider who-must-not-be-named (Time Warner) has the spottiest service, rivaled only by that of AT&T. I sure know how to choose 'em.

So, here's a quick Saturday post, featuring a few of my new favorite items: the purse, which I've been wearing almost constantly, comfy and cute shoes from my friends at Seychelles and the most awesome necklace, ever. Emerging Thoughts, one of Postlapsaria's and all independent designers' biggest supporters (and carriers), just got in a bunch of really incredible items from independent designers and sent me a little care package, which included this necklace. It's handmade by a girl in Orlando, which happens to be where I lived for five years! I'm in double love.

apples to apples

Outfit Details:
polka dot blouse - thrifted
ADAM chiffon and lace maxi skirt - c/o ADAM
rings - Forever 21 and street vendor
cuff - LOFT
lipstick - MAC Russian Red

I enjoyed this skirt very much while it was in my possession, but as soon as my mom tried it on, I knew it was really hers. Lady knows how to rock a maxi skirt. I was excited to finally be able to give something to her, because you might have noticed that almost all of my vintage accessories have been gifts from my mom. We may not look anything alike but I suppose the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree.

(We also have the same temper!)

southern belle

Outfit Details:
hat - J.Crew
dress - c/o Jolie and Elizabeth, a New Orleans based clothing line
heels - c/o Sophie Theallet for Nine West
love at first sight hobo - c/o Rebecca Minkoff
belt - thrifted
vintage bracelets - Hourglass Consignment
glasses - Ray-Ban

If you know anything about Florida you probably know that the farther South you go, the less Southern it gets. I'm from South Florida, and if I ever claimed myself as Southern in front of my real-deal Southern relatives, I might get a smack in the face, followed by a "Bless her heart." That's how they soften the blow.

I'm no dyed-in-the-wool Southern country girl but I'm no true city or suburbs girl, either. I guess I'm somewhere in between, always trying to find some sort of balance. I grew up barrel racing and catching toads (who were always named Fred - always), barefoot in the dirt and covered in horse hair. I live in the city now (and love it), but I still feel more comfortable in a pasture full of horses than I will ever feel in a room full of people - I'm getting anxiety just thinking about it. If only I could have a pasture full of horses just outside of the city. Wouldn't that be perfect?

Though they've had a long time to adjust, there are still members of my family (I'm looking at you, Grandma) who still can't believe I wear makeup and dresses...and moved to the NYC. Truth be told, I sometimes can't believe it, either. Life is funny.

p.s. this was Thursday's cancelled post - I'll be posting more of last week's posts this week. I'll try and catch up as soon as possible.

Bobby's outfit: a t-shirt, lots of tattoos.

Now that Bobby is only working one job (woohoo!), we have a lot more time together. Lately, we've been hunting for an antique sofa, with no success. I guess I'm used to actually being able to afford the kind of furniture I like, since Florida has an abundance of antiques and less demand for them. Plus, I have that nifty daughter discount at my mom's store, which is where I have gotten most of my antique and vintage furniture in the past. New York, on the other hand - they know what they're worth and they know they can get what they're asking. I have a select handful of shops that I frequent and I often pick up pieces from the Brooklyn Flea, but sofas are harder to come by. If you have any tips on where to look (in or around New York), I would love to hear them!

puppy paradise

Outfit Details:
Juicy Couture Era Sunglasses - gift from the Juicy Couture event with Tracy Anderson
camisole - DKNY (it's the lining cami from one of my blouses)
crochet vest - thrifted
floral bed jacket with fringe trim - self made (only one in the floral, but I have several in different fabrics for the shop)
shorts - H&M
Dany platforms - gift from Jessica Simpson Collection
belt - thrifted
Mid City Tote in Poppy - gift from Foley and Corinna
rings - vintage (from my mom) and Beacon's Closet
lipstick: Estée Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Melon (worn over an NYC lip stain in Rock on Ruby)

Miku was thrilled to be at the park and promenade; the weather as of late has left her without her usual playtime with other furry little friends (other than our cats). Hillside Park is such a wonderful, large and well cared for dog park - so many of New York's other dog parks are sad, small and filled with concrete - and it happens to have an extraordinary view of Manhattan. Right near the promenade and adjacent to the Brooklyn Bridge, it must give these pups quite a feeling of luxury. Though, I do think Miku would be just as happy to roll around in mud and follow the horses around at the ranch. She's a pretty pup and might look high maintenance, but she's nothing of the sort and not even a bit prissy. Much like her mother (as in me, not her biological one), she is not afraid to get a little dirty and is always up for an outdoor adventure. You can take the girls out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girls.

Okay, we grew up in South Florida. But still, we have horses and goats and stuff. Doesn't that count?
p.s. In case you're wondering, Miku is not wearing a muzzle. It's called a gentle leader:)
