Casual Living

Outfit Details:
cardigan - c/o American Living by jcpenney
shirt - Gap
belt - thrifted
pants - Forever 21
Romance boots - c/o Seychelles
glasses - Ray-Ban

The kind folks at American Living by jcpenney allowed me to pick out a piece from their collection and I immediately gravitated toward this draped cardigan. I've noticed that I'm lacking more casual pieces in my closet, so I've been slowly stocking up on basics and comfy separates for Fall. I'm slowly bringing out the sweaters and the coats are waiting for their [unwelcome] debut. I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to Autumn weather and hope it sticks around for longer than expected. Fall, good. Winter, bad!

I've had this song stuck in my head all week.

Kim got in late last night, so we're off to spend the day being really awesome or really lame, depending on the unfolding of events. Probably somewhere in between the two: really lame in everyone else's mind but living for awesome in ours. I'm excited to have Kimberly back in town!

I meant to post this Thursday, and then again yesterday. The problem was that our internet was out, because a provider who-must-not-be-named (Time Warner) has the spottiest service, rivaled only by that of AT&T. I sure know how to choose 'em.

So, here's a quick Saturday post, featuring a few of my new favorite items: the purse, which I've been wearing almost constantly, comfy and cute shoes from my friends at Seychelles and the most awesome necklace, ever. Emerging Thoughts, one of Postlapsaria's and all independent designers' biggest supporters (and carriers), just got in a bunch of really incredible items from independent designers and sent me a little care package, which included this necklace. It's handmade by a girl in Orlando, which happens to be where I lived for five years! I'm in double love.

Rock you like a hurricane

Outfit Details:
Sheer feather cardi - c/o Simply Audrey
top - Forever 21
vintage Coach belt - thrifted
denim shorts - H&M
lipstick - MAC Please Me

As a Floridian who has lived through more hurricanes, tropical storms and tornados than I can even count, I am less than thrilled about this Hurricane Irene business. I think I'm more nervous about this one than I ever was in Florida. We, for the most part, were prepared for the hurricanes in South Florida. We boarded up all of the windows, had gallons and gallons of water and flashlights for days, took the horses to a concrete barn on the racetrack and "hunkered down," as the news anchors loved to say. I slept in the bathtub of my grandma's house during Hurricane Andrew. It was normal for us to do such things during Hurricane Season. We would be without electricity for days or sometimes (in the case of Hurricane Charley) weeks. But we were prepared for that business. Heck, I was even outside during two tornadoes that touched down on the ranch and wrecked the place.

Here, we're a little more vulnerable. No one has storm shutters or boarded up windows and the stores are already out of supplies. Everyone relies on mass transit, which is shutting down tomorrow and could very well stay that way if there is a lot of damage. There's a good chance it won't be that bad (fingers crossed) but I'm just a little worried about how unprepared everyone is - including us. I'm contemplating packing up the kitties and pup and going on a little road trip. But where should we go?

Goddangit, I moved out of Florida and the hurricanes followed me. Sorry, New York! It's all my fault!

p.s It bothers me, just as much as it probably bothers you, that I'm touching my hair in every picture. Sooo annoying.

tiny creatures

Outfit #1 Details:
Ali Ro Anorak - gift from the Ali Ro shoot
blouse - Threadsence
skirt - Forever 21
bag - c/o Coach
Mother of Pearl heels - c/o Seychelles
glasses - Ray-Ban

Outfit #2 Details:
Ali Ro Anorak - gift from the Ali Ro shoot
shirt - Forever 21
jeans - c/o Tory Burch
Acorn trinket flats - c/o Anthropologie
vintage scarf - gift from my mom (tutorial here
Rachel Roy Japan Tote (all net proceeds go to Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief)

This anorak was a parting gift from our Ali Ro shoot - each of us picked out our favorite color. Even though it was too hot to wear it at first, it has since saved me from all of the rainy weather we've been experiencing. It also made for a great airport outfit topper, which is where I was headed in the second set of pictures (and also why little niece Roxy Mae was hanging onto me). What I should have documented was the hidden hood inside of the collar - which has come in handy more than a few times - but I often get distracted by tiny, adorable creatures and can't seem to resist the urge to pick them up:

Primary

Some readers have expressed concern over the lack of color in my ensembles, as of late. It didn't even occur to me until it was pointed out! I guess I have been gravitating toward more muted tones; I tend to go through phases. I felt like being very colorful, so I threw on some primary hues and MAC Russian Red lipstick. I always feel a little silly when I buy Forever 21 and H&M stuff second hand, but I really liked that this could be worn as a dress or as a vest, and that it was under $10.

One thing can be said about wearing bright colors: it makes it almost impossible to be in a bad mood!

Outfit Details:
Forever 21 wrap dress (worn as vest) and Calvin Klein heels - Beacon's Closet
Yellow satchel - courtesy of Cambridge Satchel Company
Walk 'n roll top and blue skirt (from last year; no longer available) - courtesy of ModCloth
belt - thrifted

Love love,
Keiko Lynn

Pander

Outfit Details:
Just Bright skirt - c/o ModCloth
MAC clutch - c/o Rebecca Minkoff
panda shirt - Forever 21
vest - Beacon's Closet (originally from Zara)
(see makeup here)

I'm sorry for the absence and sincerely appreciate everyone who checked in with me. I'm alive! I'm just in Florida for my sister's baby shower and have been spending all of my time with family and none of it on the computer. What a nice change of pace. Everyone is sleeping, so I figured I would stop in and say hello.

Some of you might know about my panda obsession. It all started with Snowball and I've never outgrown it. Between gifts from family, friends and also from my own purchases, I have a pretty impressive/borderline crazypants collection of panda things. Also, one of my nicknames is Panda. Or Pander, depending on whom you ask.

Naturally, I had to pick up this shirt at Forever 21 as soon as I (or maybe Tessa) spotted it. If I didn't, what kind of Panda would I be? Not a very good one, I suspect.

flat and sassy

I never really developed in the chest area; I wore training bras until...well, I could probably still get away with wearing them. But hips, on the other hand - I've had what have been referred to as "birthin' hips" as far back as middle school. Back then, I wore extra large t-shirts and short BONGO shorts that masked my wide hips and the fact that I had a completely flat chest. It was a good look (it wasn't). I didn't dare try to fake it with a stuffed bra, though if I ever did, I would've tried the pudding technique, à la Teeny in  Now and Then. Be honest - how many of you did that?

That being said, I never had nor do I have an issue with my hips. Without them, I would have no curves at all. But maxi skirts like this tend to magnify how very hippy I am and I never thought it was a very flattering silhouette on me. Somewhere along the way, I decided I didn't give a crap, just like I decided in high school that being a part of the IBTC was something to be celebrated and not hidden under oversized shirts. We may not have boobs, but we have cheaper bras! And I may have big hips, but I'm wearing whatever the hell I feel like wearing. Downright rebellious, I am. Throw caution to the wind!

Plus, on this particular day, I had two people stop me to tell me I looked beautiful. That never happens! Who said New Yorkers aren't nice?

It's the weekend! Wooo party. It usually means very little to me, since I work an irregular schedule and other than sewing and computer...ing, I don't really have much of a life beyond sitting on the floor with my animals. But my dear friend Drew is coming in from LA and that is great news! Plus, weekends bring brunch and flea markets, which are two of my favorite things...and I really like sitting on the floor with my animals. Everybody wins!
