Unicorn Dreams

Remember when I first spotted these shoes and almost died on the spot? They have a unicorn horn for a heel; it's like they were made for me. Well, I'm a very lucky girl because Modcloth sent them to me right before the IFB Evolving Influence conference, along with this cute little dress and these gloves I've been wearing nonstop. I did what I always do with new things: I wore them all at once. I used to do that the first week of school - I would wear all of my new school clothes within the first week and then I'd have nothing but old clothes left until laundry day. Come to think of it, I also do that with groceries. I guess I'm impatient and gluttonous.

Sister, Sister

This was Amanda's first time at New York Fashion Week. I was a little bummed because I only got a couple of invitations to shows at the tents - and they were for the day before and the day after she was here. Although that didn't quite work out (we went to several shows and previews off-site), I was able to bring her to the tents (in the AmEx skybox, no less!) for an IFB hosted Q&A session with Fern Mallis, the Vice President of IMG and creator of NYFW. Amanda let me dress her in my own clothes, which was a ton of fun. We have completely different styles but were able to come to an agreement on this ensemble. I wish we would have gotten pictures of it without the load of things in her arm (and without the coat) but it was cold and we were in a hurry all day.

These glasses were a lifesaver. My eyes were burning from the cold wind but sunglasses made the bleak day too dark. I allowed myself to wear them twice but then I just sucked it up and dealt with watery, burning eyes for the rest of the week. I should have bought goggles.

After a Q&A with NYFW creator and IMG VP Fern Mallis at Bryant Park, Amanda and I made a stop at Sheila Frank's presentation across the street. We immediately ran into the lovely Gala Darling, whom I met just a couple nights before at the Fashion 2.0 Social Media Awards. I had the pleasure of finally meeting Susan from ModCloth, and also caught up with Diane of Snapshot Fashion. On top of all that, I met a couple of fellow bloggers, Jen and Kelly, who were lucky winners of Diane's giveaway (they won invitations to the presentation).

Sheila's clothing had a macabre inspiration, with a theme of stalkers inspiring the entire presentation. Red was the prevalent color choice, and there were photographs displayed along the wall which completed the theme. We had to run to another show but I'm glad we were able to catch up with Sheila and so many other familiar faces.

Introducing Amanda and Jonathan Fiske!

Here's a quick preview of my sister's wedding. I have at least a bajillion of my own photos to go through, and my mom is meeting up with the photographer this evening!

The wedding was very low key and beautiful. I think we proved that you can have an incredible wedding on a tiny budget - it just takes a lot of team work! It also helped that we had a venue (my mom's ranch) - but it required a ton of work to make it suitable for a wedding.

I made Amanda's dress (she wore it with a Darlingtonia bow belt), Kim made her hairpiece, Amanda did her own makeup and Bobby, friends and family took care of the food. Tessa, my friends and I made all of the decorations. More details to come! I'm just being a slow-poke because I'm rather sickly at the moment.

p.s. I also made the sign they are holding - I cut out all of those freaking letters by hand. I had blisters the next day! But it looked cute.
