Living On The Edge

First things first: can anyone tell me why my camera (nikon d50) is doing that (the black bar in the bottom photo)? There is tremendous light fallout. When I have the camera horizontal, it's on the bottom. When I have it vertical, it moves with the camera (so it usually makes the right side dark). It does it with both of my lenses, so it has to be the camera. It doesn't do it all the time but sometimes it ruins the whole photograph. It has been happening more and more often. I can't figure it out!

/tangent.

Do you guys like my bruises and Hello Kitty bandaids? I like to think my bruised up legs make me look super tough, but really I'm just clumsy. I think everyone else knows the truth, as well. Either way, the cute bow really balances the toughness of my battle scars. My good friend Samara (who just finished law school...yay!) bought me this adorable bow belt last week, and got herself a matching purple one. We decided to be awesome/lame and wear them at the same time for breakfast. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me - otherwise I would have gotten pictures of us being twins. Maybe now that she has some downtime (j/k...bar exam time!), we can plan another matching day.

I would say "Wish Samara luck on her bar exam!" - but she really doesn't need it. At breakfast, she was telling me how "over law school" she was. She said, "I don't even care anymore. Give me a B and call it a day."

"Oooh, what a rebel," I said. "I can just hear Aerosmith's 'Living On The Edge' in my head right now."

Whatever it takes

Outfit Details: Seychelles boots and BB Dakota skirt - courtesy of ModCloth, tights - H&M, vintage vest - Beacon's Closet, BB Dakota lace top - borrowed from Kim, vintage wicker purse - a gift from my mom's bff Dawn, belt and blazer - thrifted

I've been wearing a lot of boots, lately - which makes sense, since it is Fall. I used to wear boots all the time, even in Florida. It would literally be pushing 90 degrees and I would somehow work boots into my ensemble. I have few major issues with Florida; it was a pleasant place to grow up. I just resented not being able to dress for different seasons. It's pretty much Summer all year round, except for the occasional, if very slight, chill. I absolutely hate being cold, but I do love to layer and I also love my boots. Get it together, Florida! Your flippy floppy clad inhabitants are missing out on the joys of the seasonal wardrobe.

Of course, I say this now, while the weather is still bearable. Come Winter, I'll be begging New York to take notes from Florida. The grass is always greener!

p.s.

This is from over four years ago. In Florida. It was probably warm. They are still some of my favorite boots!

p.p.s. Happy Birthday to my BFF Lauren<3

all wrapped in bones of a setting sun

Outfit Details:

cotton knit top with crochet neckline - thrifted
bow belt - thrifted
vintage plaid skirt - Beacon's Closet
tights - H&M

I'm still in Florida. In fact, I haven't booked my flight back yet - which seems to be a recurring theme with me. It isn't Florida I miss (although sometimes I miss that, too) - it's the people who live here. I miss my family, my friends, my wee little animals and the horses. I just wish there was a way to move the two states together and do away with those between. No offense to all of you on the East coast but you're quite a hindrance to our proximity. Can we rectify that?
